The Inner Game of Marketing

girl meditatingThe inner game of marketing, or self promotion, must be played on several levels. Mastering each of these levels is the key to your success in marketing yourself, especially in the area of having a website that really rocks.

Belief in Yourself

Let’s face it, you’re not going to be successful in any area of life if you don’t believe in yourself. The songwriter Gretchen Peters once said, “you have to have an illogical belief in yourself.”

Your belief in yourself, as well as your product or service, needs to have deep roots. It needs to go way down so that it can’t be uprooted. The world may try to beat you down. Resistance will try to hold you down. Only a rock solid belief in who you are and what you have to offer will sustain you and give you inspiration and strength to push through and make it.

Clarity in Your Purpose

Getting clarity on your purpose, or the reason behind what you’re doing, is so significant. Without having a clarity of purpose, you will not be able to commit to anything. You will wander around aimlessly from one thing to the next, not knowing what action to take next. You can’t be intentional about your goals if you’re not even sure where you’re going.

When it comes to marketing yourself, if you don’t have a clarity of purpose, you will have a hard time taking any action, let alone the right action. That’s not a good feeling. However, when you are sure of your purpose, you will be more in the flow. Decisions about what actions to take will come naturally.

Investment in Your Dream

Do any of these statements sound familiar to you?

  • I don’t have enough time.
  • I don’t have enough money.
  • It’s not really that important to invest in my website or online presence right now.
  • As long as I just have a Facebook page, that’s all I need.
  • I’ll get a really rockin’ website when I get more noticed and maybe have a team that can take care of my marketing for me.”

If so, you have to ask yourself if you’re doing this as a hobby, or are you really trying to be professional? Remember to Be – Do – Have. Before you can have the success that a professional has, you have to do the things a professional does. Before you can do the things a professional does, you have to BE professional. Act the part, and be convincing.

That means that, before you become famous, you need to invest in your marketing. If you’re a musician, you wouldn’t try to be professional with a $100 student instrument, would you? People would laugh at you.

Before you can even BE professional, though, you have to THINK like a professional. You have to have that inner success mindset that believes in self, has clarity of purpose and knows that investing in your dream is worth it! Are you ALL IN? Are you ready to go ALL OUT?

Go for it, rockstar!
